If by April 15th I do not have all of my documentation or am not prepared to file my taxes, can I file an extension and if so, is there a charge?
You can get an automatic extension of time to file your tax return by filing Form 4868. This form does not allow you to delay your tax due and the extension can be rejected if the tax is not paid by April 15th.
The extension is for 6 months and we do not charge for filing an extension.
